Rubus occidentalis
The Black Raspberry (Rubus occidentalis) is a deciduous shrub native to North America. Growing up to 1.5m, it has perennial root (crown) branches that produce slender, straight-growing canes. The leaves are medium-sized and divided into three leaflets. When ripe, it produces clusters of dark red-black edible berries with a sweet flavour. The plant is a great source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and can be used fresh or made into jams and jellies.
