The Arctic Hare’s Foot Sedge (Carex glareosa subsp. glareosa |Carex lachenalii Schkuhr) is an herbaceous, perennial sedge species found in wet, open habitats throughout Europe and parts of North America. It has delicate, arching leaves that grow up to 12 inches long and form distinctive tufts. Its small clustered flowers are typically greenish-brown and have six to eight tepals each. Moderately tolerant of shade, Arctic Hare’s Foot Sedge is capable of growing along stream banks and in boreal and alpine meadows. It prefers moist, well-drained soil, and is highly valued for its ability to spread quickly in disturbed areas.
