Carex glacialis
Alpine Sedge is an evergreen perennial found in mountainous regions of North America. Growing up to 6 inches tall, its feathery leaves are gray-green in color. In late spring and early summer, small clusters of purple-brown flowers appear. This sedge grows best in moist conditions in high-elevation meadows and along cold and wet streams. It is also well-known for its resistance to rocks and windy conditions, making it one of the hardiest plants in its range. Alpine Sedge is an important part of mountain ecosystems, providing shelter and food for a variety of wildlife.
