Penstemon 'Czar'
Penstemon 'Czar' or beardtongue is a hardy perennial plant with showy spike blooms which can add a striking color to any garden. Growing up to 30 inches tall and 18 inches wide, its large, deep purple leaves turn a bronze-green during the summer months. The flowers bloom in mid to late summer in shades of bright pink to purplish-red and attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Penstemon 'Czar' prefers full sun and moist but well-drained soil and is easy to propagate by division or cuttings. There is no need to deadhead, as the blooms will self-seed for a bigger and longer bloom time.

Seasonal Adjustments
Adjust watering frequency based on temperature, humidity, and season. Water more frequently in summer and less in winter.
Pro Tip: Check soil moisture before watering. Stick your finger 1-2 inches into the soil—if it's dry, it's time to water!
Take 4-6" cuttings in spring, root in water or moist soil
Divide root ball in spring, replant sections immediately
Bend stem to soil surface, cover lightly, roots form in 4-6 weeks
Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date
Join scion to rootstock, bind securely until healed
Good For:
Consider Carefully:
Needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Place in the sunniest spot in your garden.
Allow soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot.
