Waldsteinia geoides
The barren strawberry (Waldsteinia geoides) is a perennial flowering plant native to Europe and North America. It has fine, herbal leaflets and small yellow flowers with five petals. The flowers bloom in late spring and can spread rapidly by way of stolons, allowing them to form large mats. Barren strawberry thrives in dry, partial to full shade areas, though it needs moisture in drier climates. Its low-growing structure can reach heights of about 15 cm with a spread of 40 cm. This hardy plant is also drought-tolerant and is commonly used to fill in bare patches between stepping stones or in rock gardens.

Divide root ball in spring, replant sections immediately
Take 4-6" cuttings in spring, root in water or moist soil
Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date
Bend stem to soil surface, cover lightly, roots form in 4-6 weeks
