Bidens tripartita
Beggarticks (Bidens tripartita) are a fast-growing annual flowering plant with small, yellow flower heads. Stems can measure up to 3 feet long and the plant has barren-looking leaves which end in three-pointed teeth giving it its name. It typically grows in wetland areas but can tolerate other soils in full sun or partial shade. The sap of the plant can cause skin irritation so it's best to wear gloves when handling. It's an excellent source of nectar for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. It will also attract birds who eat its seeds. Beggarticks may need to be thinned out once it reaches flowering age.
