Prunus serotina
Black cherry (Prunus serotina) is a medium-sized deciduous tree, native to North America. It grows up to 25 metres tall, and has glossy black bark and a conical crown. Its branches are covered with small, fragrant white flowers in spring, followed by dark purple fruits in autumn. The leaves are dark green and become a reddish colour with age. This species is widely used in timber production and for the production of homemade jams, jellies, and syrups. It is also popular as an ornamental tree, providing beautiful showy flowers in spring.
