Taxodium distichum 'Pendens'
The bald cypress (Taxodium distichum 'Pendens') is a fascinating specimen of the cypress family. Grown primarily in the southeastern United states, this evergreen conifer features graceful, arching, weeping branches that drape from a trunk of twisted, reddish-brown bark. It is also extremely tolerant of moist ground and wet conditions, making it a great choice for a privacy screen, windbreak, or accent in the landscape. Numerous curly needles create an airy, feathery texture to the top, and in the fall, the yellow tips turn a russet brown that adds a nice dimension to the tree. The bald cypress requires little maintenance and can easily grow 40 -60 feet tall with a wider spread once mature.

Seasonal Adjustments
Adjust watering frequency based on temperature, humidity, and season. Water more frequently in summer and less in winter.
Pro Tip: Check soil moisture before watering. Stick your finger 1-2 inches into the soil—if it's dry, it's time to water!
Take 4-6" cuttings in spring, root in water or moist soil
Join scion to rootstock, bind securely until healed
Bend stem to soil surface, cover lightly, roots form in 4-6 weeks
Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date
Divide root ball in spring, replant sections immediately
Good For:
Consider Carefully:
Enjoys dappled or limited direct sun—about 2–4 hours of morning or late afternoon light and protection during peak midday sun.
Requires frequent watering to maintain moist soil. Don't let the soil dry out completely.
Plant in early spring or fall for best results. Blooms in spring.
