Rehmannia glutinosa
Rehmannia glutinosa, commonly known as adhesive rehmannia, is a species of flowering plant native to China and Japan. This perennial herb grows up to 1m in height and has a deep-rooted, woody stem. Its leaves are deep green, heart-shaped and covered in a thin layer of velvety hairs. Rehmannia glutinosa has attractive yellow and purple flowers, which bloom during the summer months. All parts of the plant have medicinal and therapeutic properties, particularly the root which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. The prickly tuberous root can be dried and ground into a powder which acts as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. Adhesive rehmannia is an easy-to-grow plant and can be propagated from both cuttings and its seed pods.
